Rangers picked up a Significant victory against St Mirren in Ibrox tonight. Some Rangers fans are left less than impressed with the operation of Jon Flanagan tonight, despite Steven Gerrard’s team picking up a significant victory.

Jermain Defoe was the poacher in the box to capitalise on Borna Barisic’s deflected low cross and firing his group into a one-goal lead. While the win will no doubt delight fans, some were left disappointed by Flanagan, particularly in the aftermath of Nathan Patterson’s introduction last Friday night.

The adolescent was handed his first start against Stranraer in the Scottish Cup and impressed enough to create some fans believe he should have kept his place in right-back.

Captain James Tavernier is now out injured, so Gerrard needs a trusted performer to manage the pressures of the Scottish Premiership title race. He preferred for Flanagan tonight, but there might be a clamour for the 27-year-old to be changed from the side ahead of the weekend’s clash away to Hearts at Tynecastle.

These fans are looking for more in the position. But again one bad game doesn’t make the ex-Liverpool player bad in the business. He should get a few more chances to prove his mettle. Even then, if he doesn’t come up to the task, it would be high time to give Stranraer his deserved opportunity.
